They were established in 2001and are the largest professional ballet company inSouth Africa and a major player in the performing arts.
They have enjoyed their fair share of international stars like Mara Galeazzi and Maina Gielgud, amongst others, who have worked and performed with South African Ballet Theatre.
They -
- have two to four professional productions per year of international standard
- have local and international tours performing at local and international arts festivals – Arts Alive, Aardklop, Macufe, and The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown
- have outreach programmes in Alexandra, Soweto and Katlehong

Theatre activities are fun for young people and adults alike as they develop skills that will be used to portray a wide variety of characters.
Stagedoor Showbusiness Academy provides training in the performing arts, and specialises in musical theatre.
Some of their disciplines:
- dance – ballet, contmporary, African, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop
- drama – acting for stage and screen
- singing – sole or ensemble, music theory etc
- choreography and movement
- directing for stage
- vocal training
- stagecraft – make-up and backstage skills
Students will also perform in staged productions throughout the year to enhance their skills. Once the training programme is completed, students receive a Stagedoor Diploma in Musical Theatre.

Campus of Performing Arts -COPA started out in 2001 as a music college where courses are presented by professional musicians,providing students with accredited, intensive practical programmes either full- or part time -

Apart from the music aspect, students are also trained in things like Music Business and Stage Craft to set them up for a career in the music industry.

The Old Mutual Theatre on the Square and been awarded many times for theatre excellence. They have stage a variety of acclaimed productions in their 200 seater theatre – plays, musicals , children’s theatre, concerts, corporate events etc.
If you haven’t booked, the box office opens an hour before each show for tickets.
- they have spaces available for wheelchair users as well as special toilet facilities.
- a bar and coffee bar is provided. Order before the show and have it during interval
- they have a number of excellent restaurants with international cuisine
- dinner/show packages at most restaurants on the Square
- classes for children in the performing arts – drama, musical theatre, African dance, stage crafts etc
- lunch-hour classical music concerts on Friday
