The wooded park is a popular outdoor theatre venue. It was already in the 1950′s when Cecelia Sonnenberg and Rene Ahrenson, both actresses, decided that the little-used park in Wynberg would make a perfect open air theatre.
They had their first production in 1956 of “The Taming of the Shrew” which ran to packed houses.
The open-air theatre -
- offers a unique wooded 720-seater theatre setting
- famous local and internation actors have enriched the theatre
- they offer special educational shows – Shakespeare
- in 1975 they joined with CAPAB in joint management of Maynardville
The Maynardville Theatre, together with Artscape, presents classical theatre and dance.
